Cheap Phone Sex and Web Design

The other day, I got a phone call from the owner of a well established website, thought of within the topic it specialized in as an authority site.  With hundreds of quality articles, the owner was lamenting the fact that her site was nowhere to be seen for any of the keywords she was trying to rank for, given that she specialized in these exact keywords.

couple-phone-sexOne in particular, cheap phone sex was one she had consistently ranked in the the top 10 of google for years but for the past 3 or years, she had witnessed her site disappeared with the SERPs and was (understandably) rather despondent about this.

“I know it’s a phone sex site, she told me, and I realize adult sites go by a different set of rules when it comes to ranking but there are sites out there, in the exact same industry, with no content whatsoever,  who are ranking top whilst I am no longer even within the first 100 results.  How is it, and more importantly, can you help?”

If you own a website, whether it is an adult site or not, I am ready to bet that you have often wondered about the exact same thing. You spend your time writing quality articles, providing real contextual information to the visitors you hope will come to your site, only to find out that even though google has indexed all of your pages, and sometimes does so within a couple of hours of the article being published, you are getting but a trickle of visitors a day.

“It’s all about content” they used to say, then they added good and made it “it’s all about good content” and when this didn’t work, they added yet another caveat… Or two…  “It’s about unique and good content, and it must be relevant to your website main topic.

And so, thousands of hard working website owners out there do exactly that.  They go by the rule and write quality articles with all the things that make an article quality, in the eyes of google.

And still, they get no traffic…

“It’s not about your site being in the phone sex business” I told my client, and “whilst it’s good that you are writing good content that is relevant to the adult chat industry, any additional article you are going to write is not going to help you achieve your goal of attracting customers who are after affordable phone sex” I told her.

She wanted proof… So I took a one page site that she had and did the things that needed to be done, without adding a single article to that page…  Where is she ranking now for that page?  In the top 10.

With all things being google, it’s quite possible that a new set of rules will pop up in the near future to counteract the fact that some of us have become wiser to some of google algorithms, but it goes to show that:

If 999 out of a thousand men and women tell you that the earth is square, that doesn’t mean that they know what they’re talking about.
